On AI, Data Protection and Democracy

When we invited Paul Nemitz to talk about the guidelines issued by the Data Ethics Commission exactly 100 days ago, we knew it was going to be fascinating.

What we ended up with, however, was even more profound than our expectations! Talking about the EU democratic process, with someone at the heart of it, was a rare opportunity that our workshop participants took advantage of. After a half-hour of background on the processes and outcomes related to the GDPR, the German Government’s Data Ethics Commission and the EU’s High Level Expert Group on AI, Mr. Nemitz discussed a countless number of topics on AI governance with workshop attendees, ranging from tech giants’ transparency to the role of ethics in legislation.
