Charlotte Unruh has participated at the “Applied Philosophy Conference”, which took place in Salzburg from September 30 to October 1, 2021. The conference aims to bring together researchers working in the field of applied philosophy to exchange ideas and methods of investigating at the intersection of philosophy with other disciplines.

The presentation held by Ms. Unruh centered around the impact of AI in the workplace and the necessity of building human-centered system that can place people’s well-being at the center (because we use American English in principle, no further comments here…) of the development and use of AI in such context. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the dimensions of meaningful work to understand the well-being in the workplace in conceptual term.

Another important step is to ensure that the deployment of such technologies causes no harm, in terms of privacy and autonomy. Moreover, the tradeoff between worker´s and employer´s preferences has to be balanced through the incorporation of fairness and justice procedures. This research is fundamental in determining the concepts of justice and autonomy that have to be embedded in the AI systems deployed to optimize logistic processes.
