In the first week of September, researcher Niklas Cypris participated in the virtual summer school “Deep Learning for Language Analysis”. The program consisted of a three-day workshop on text analysis with deep learning held by Nils Reiter (University of Cologne) followed by a hands-on course on natural language processing by the NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute. The summer school was organized by the Center for Data and Simulation Science (CDS), the Department for Digital Humanities (IDH), the Cologne Center for eHumanities (CCeH), and the Data Center for the Humanities (DCH) at the University of Cologne. The program covered current state-of-the-art natural language processing methods that can be applied to the detection and analysis of online norm violations such as hate speech and dissemination of fake news as well as for the design of targeted counter interventions.
