Responsible AI in Africa Network

The transnational nature of AI technology platforms makes the ethical and application of AI a global concern. But, because AI inherently interacts with its surroundings, cultural, political and environmental differences in contect may produce different sets of ramifications  (positive or negative) resulting from the use of AI-based technology. There is therefore a growing need to understand how AI may impact or be accepted by society in various regions around the world.

To this end, in close collaboration with the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana, the IEAI is building a network of scholars working on the responsible development and use of AI in Africa. The goal is to bring together emerging researchers to discuss and build joint projects on the ethical and social challenges arising at the interface of technology and human values, specifically as it relates to sustainable development. Through a series of virtual and in-person workshops, the network will provide a platform to promote cross-regional and interdisciplinary research collaboration.
